More Geocaching + Pictures

The weather has been fantastic over the last couple of weeks.  Temperatures have warmed into the 80s and we’ve seen our fair share of sunshine, especially for the month of April.  That allowed me to get outside again and do a little more geocaching.

Here’s some pictures from my geocaching adventures…

Hinkston Run Cache Site

Well… I found one cache on the opposite side of the lake.  Then, I tried to find another one that was supposedly near the waterfall.  I even had some help from a couple of guys on quads.  It didn’t matter.  We looked all around and couldn’t find it.  It was strange because my GPS would say I was a few feet away, but then a few feet down the road, it’d be back to being 100 feet away.  I WILL try to find this one again sometime.  I did get to see a great scene, though.  It’s something that I didn’t know was even in our region.  Here’s the picture of the waterfall at Hinkston Run…

Bog and Boulder Cache Cache Site

This one is in Gallitzin State Forest.  It was a warm day and I started walking the wrong way from the beginning.  After I realized that I went the wrong way, I went back and went the right way.  That ended up doubling my hike… I guess I should read directions online next time, huh?  I found the area where the cache was but again, didn’t find the cache.  (I’m really bad at this!)  So, I took a picture and went on my way.  Even though I’m not getting the caches, I’m still getting some cool pictures.  I guess that’s a good second prize!  Here’s the picture of the bog with the rays of the sun.

Hillbilly Beach Cache Site

This one is in the Ligonier area and is located at Linn Run.  Again, this is another cool place that I never knew about.  Again, this is another one that I didn’t find.  In my defense, I was kinda in a hurry this day.  Apparantly, it was a lack of reading the website again that did me in.  I left the bridge on the wrong side, I think… even though my GPS seemed to be right on.  I’ll try this one again sometime soon, too.  Again, I got a great picture.  This time, it’s at the parking area of Linn Run.  Check out the picture below.

So, my adventures in geocaching aren’t very good.  I do, however, get to see a lot of cool places that I never would have seen if I didn’t do this.  (It would still be cool to actually find the caches, but oh well.)

  1. Great stories, and great photos. My wife and I geocache, but my pictures rarely turn out well. How can you mess up pictures with a digital camera? I can do it.

  2. I took those with my cell phone. They aren’t the greatest. I don’t think I’d want to take a digital camera out there. It’s hard enough to carry around a bulky GPS.

    Thanks for the comment!

  3. Beautiful photos! I just gotta find a camera I can take caching with me that I won’t break!
